GoldWing Light Parade Venue Announced

The Organisers of the Blackpool GoldWing Light Parade have announced the new venue for the Event which is to be a whole Crescent of Hotels and Apartments on South Shore Promenade. All the participating Hotels are offering discounted accommodation and bar prices and they are coordinating their entertainment programmes over the weekend to suit the Event too. They are also offering access to their facilities to non-residents, so the Organisers will be incorporating better facilities for Wingers who live in the area or wish to stay elsewhere.

The location of the venue is bang on the Southern start point of the Illuminations with enough room to muster the Parade in safety and offering direct access to and from the Parade Route.

Details of all hotels and accomodation rates can be found on the Goldwing Light Parade Accommodation page of the website.

Taking it easy Goldwing Style

GoldWings North West is a club for Honda GoldWing motorcycle owners in Central Lancashire and the surrounding areas. The Club welcomes GoldWing owners and riders and those who are interested in maybe one day owning and riding a Honda GoldWing. We meet on the last Sunday of the month at the Norman Jepson Hotel, close to Junction 31a of the M6, so we’re easily accessible and handily placed for the wonderful biking roads and scenery of the Lancashire fells and the Bowland Forest. Incredible rear view motorcycle helmet

helmetI came across this incredible rear view motorcycle helmet whilst trawling through various web sites, don’t know if you have seen it before. The idea is such a simple one based on clever periscope technology with fancy 21st century shaping of the mirrors. Think about it, as soon as you put a helmet on your head you reduce your peripheral vision and spacial awareness of things around you, about the worst thing you can do on a

March Meeting Moved

april-meeting-010.jpgPlease note that our scheduled March meeting will now take place one week earlier on the 21st March. This is due to a couple of events that members want to attend and take part in, Dont forget!  We will also have the Ultraseal installation guy at this meeting, so those who want to add maximum protection to their tyres can do so on the day. Remember he will also supply Ultraseal to car, caravan, trailer and motorhome tyres, so not just your Goldwing.

Trikes and the Chairman’s Curse………

sunday dinner run 1.jpgThose of you who went on the Sunday Dinner Dales run last year may remember a little incident where our then Chairman, Bob, had a small incident with Dave Bayliss’s trike…For those of you who weren’t there, Bob had hitched a lift on the back of Dave’s trike down to where the rest of us were waiting. Things were going well until the dismount, when Bob lost his footing and suddenly disappeared from view. This was bad enough, but continues………

Lesley Halley Award

Lesley HalleyAt the recent AGM, as your outgoing chairman, I proposed that our club should have an award of some description that could be presented by the organising committee to a member or couple who had, during the previous year, contributed more than, become involved with, or generally driven the club forward in a positive manner, above and beyond what could be expected, and asked for your approval and a suitable title for the award. continues………

Snow makes Train Trip

Click here for link to Train Trip GalleryOnce again the snow came down and turned the Keighley Worth Valley Rail Trip into a winter wonderland. It wasn’t all that bad to be honest, with most people managing to get to Ingrow West Station from all directions in time for the 11:00 train. It was quite amusing how many Sat Nav systems took drivers the short route over the moors with no consideration for the weather conditions. Maybe Garmin could do something about continues………

Federation Website updated

federation-logoNow that I have stepped down as Chairman of Goldwings North West I intend spend time promoting and updating the Federation of UK Goldwing Clubs website. My plan is to use the Federation site to keep affiliated clubs up to date with events and happenings via the posts section. Anything that is newsworthy from any affiliated club will be posted there for all members to see and comment on.

Dover Dunkirk Prices

dinner-dance-253From Graham Coleman -The latest pricing for Dover Dunkirk Ferries may be of interest to trike owners, We are travelling with a bike and a trike to France. I contacted Norfolk Line as their web site was down and not able to book on line. I tried to book the trike as a motorcycle and side car, I was told that if any axles are in line (unless a Trailer) then the vehicle is classed as a 3 wheel car. He then explained that he had just passed his bike continues………

Anniversary Big Success

031The recent anniversary dinner dance at the Leyland Hotel was hailed a major success, although under a cloud of sorrow, the many people who attended said this was the best Christmas / anniversary party ever, and that is a tall order as we have had lots of good parties in the past. Lesley certainly played a blinder when she found this venue. I’m sure it will be difficult to go elsewhere for next years event. The number of members continues………

Full support at AGM

Ray Beech from the NW Air Ambulance with Treasurer Pete Rogers receiving a cheque for £500.The dinner dance at the Leyland Hotel was superb, and a fitting tribute to the main organiser Lesley Halley. Many members took the opportunity to dress up and had a ball, the hotel gave us a really good room rate so many also stayed over, all in all a really good anniversary celebration. View some of the many pictures taken at the party here. The official business of the Sunday morning was the very first AGM of GoldWings North continues………

Dinner Dance pictures.

023300 pictures from the anniversary dinner dance have now been uploaded to the 2010 gallery page. Members took the opportunity to dress up and the ladies did us proud on the night. We certainly supped some stuff at the free bar and had a lot of fun. Thanks to Frank Goodman and Dave Turvey who added their images to the gallery. Let me have your photographs from the evening if you want them included in the gallery. Lesley Halley Book of Condolence

lesley-halleyIt is with great sadness that we inform you of the very early passing of Lesley Halley on Friday morning 29th January. Lesley and Barry joined the club just over 12 months ago and immediately Lesley made an impression, getting involved with all the events and making the effort to attend and generally be in the thick of things. Her fiery character and soft unmistakable laughter were a joy to behold. She was certainly a rising star within our continues………
