Federation announces retirement of web-master

Nigel Mackintosh, master of the black art and provider of all things technical has retired from his volunteer role as web-master for the Federation. We are deeply indebted to Nigel for our own website GoldWings North West, and the support we have received over the last three years.

Nigel has kindly managed his retirement so that there is little or no interference with our current website, or how it can be operated in the future.

Looks like our very own Ian Duxbury has offered his services and joined the team moving the Federation forward . Read the full posting here. Purpose made Goldwing trailer for sale- NOW SOLD

Purpose made Goldwing trailer

Dave Partridge is selling his purpose-made trailer which he has used to transport both solo GoldWings and trikes in the course of his AwingAway business but is now surplus to requirements. This is a one-off single axle design with a payload of 540 kg, so enough to transport a GoldWing Trike yet light and manoeuvrable enough to tow behind a family car.

It has a purpose made loading skid and a fitted winch which makes loading a safe and controlled one-man operation. Enclosed trailers which will carry a trike are very uncommon and trike owners usually have to resort to using a flatbed open trailer.

By the way this doesn’t mean that Dave is giving up his servicing and repair business, quite the oppoesite, he’s going from strength to strength.

Light Parade- goes to Southport for 2012

Jeff Thornton and his team have finalised the details for the 2012 Goldwing Light Parade and announced it will be held inthe seaside resort of Southport.

The dates are 21st -23rd September and the venue for the weekend is the Prince of Wales Hotel right in the middle of town on Lord Street. The accommodation package is an amazingly good deal with rooms costing £77.50 per person for Friday and Saturday nights (two nights) and include your breakfast and evening meals. Single rooms are also the same price. Wingers can extend the weekend break and add further nights to the package at £30.00 per person per night. How good is that. Ring Maria Broderick at the Hotel on 01704 536 688 and book your accommodation, quoting booking code GOPR2109.

The usual format of parade and best lit bike competition will take place along with a static display during the day. There are still a couple of locations to be finalised but the Police and Marshalling is already arranged with the full support of the Council. All we need now is the weather. Trust Jeff has got that sorted too.

Well, it had to happen eventually……

Although I’ve done my best to avoid it for as long as possible, I have now joined the ranks of many of our illustrious members. Apparently, to qualify, you need great quantities of wisdom, patience and be more than a little good at cuddles…

Puzzled? Well, you won’t be when you know that Lynette and I became very proud Grandparents for the first time when our daughter Fiona gave birth to Joshua James at 12:15 am on the 5th December. Bit of a surprise, really, as he wasn’t expected until the 23rd! Mum and Son both doing fine and I’m having trouble prising him off Lynette, but manage to sneak in the occasional cuddle when she’s not looking!

Now, how small do they make those bike jackets?……..

I must admit I did give you a few weeks longer to get to grips with this one, and some of you did. The winner of caption competition IV can only be Jim & Chandra although I would like to know who it actually was who came up with this gem. Congratulations to either Jim or Chandra

What you missed page added to website

We had a lively meeting this month, and a good idea that came from it was having a web page under the members section that displayed what absent members had missed, i.e. if you couldn’t attend the meeting and want to keep up to date with what was going on then you could read up on proceedings. Nothing in depth was called for just bullet points and outcomes. Well that’s easy enough, have a look for the new page called “members“. Click on the tab and you will be asked for the password, its the same as for members pictures. You will also notice I have moved the members pictures to this section and renamed it gallery. Hope it helps!

Maroon GL1800 Stolen

Maroon GL1800 stolen: Few people have ever heard of a GoldWing being stolen, but I’m sorry to report that our Vice-Chairman’s very recently acquired Maroon GL1800 – shown in the attached photo – has disappeared from its garage over the last couple of days. The registration is FE07OKX, so would all Wingers please keep an eye out for it being ridden or offered for sale. If you hear of a job lot of spare parts coming available suddenly in your area, please let us know and we will follow up on it.
