Rhyl Air Show Invite – Goldwings North Wales
Nigel Mackintosh writes – We have been invited to put on a static display at the Rhyl Air Show on August 8th. I know that is your RAF Woodvale weekend, but I’d like to extend an invitation to your club to join us anyway, in case some people are not going to Woodvale.
The RAF have taken a big chunk of space this year, as they will be holding various displays in a Military Village in the events arena (including a Chinook Helicopter). We have been provisionally allocated a display space right on the prom itself, at the rear of the Sun Centre/Pavilion Theatre (shown on this map here). Access to it is via the Sun Centre Car Park which is right beside us. There are catering and toilet facilities nearby. There are no restrictions on us accessing or leaving our display area via the car park at any time (taking due care and attention). If we were any nearer the centre of the action, this would not be possible. Traffic is expected to be heavy on the Sunday as the Red Arrows draw large crowds wherever they display.
We need to be set up by 1pm ideally, but I plan to get there before noon (with butties) because traffic was really bad last year around lunchtime. I will bring the odd flag or two, and hopefully Dave can bring our club sail banner too. Feel free to bring yours too if anyone can make it.
They put on a good flying display last year, as you can see from the photos I took then, so I hope some of your members can attend.
regards
Nigel

There has been a slight change of plans since I first wrote to you about the Rhyl Air Show static display. I wasn’t too happy with us being so far from the main action (400 metres), so they have now found us a space beside the Lifeboat House …… it’s right in the middle of everything, and indeed at the focal point for the Red Arrows and the rest of the Air Show.
I have modified the map (http://bit.ly/bcmJ7X) so that it shows our new display area and access route. The only disadvantage of the improved location – as I predicted – is that we are now in the middle of thousands of spectators and thus cannot move our bikes between 10am and 5.30pm.
So, Joanna and I aim to get there for 9.45am……… and enjoy a day out at the seaside! If you want to ride there with me, I will leave my house at 9am prompt.
I’d be grateful if you could let me know if you hope to attend (weather and other last minute problems notwithstanding), as the organiser asked for numbers so he could tape out our space.
