BMW’s new K1600LT- Goldwing it’s not
BMW’s new 6 cylinder K1600TL grand tourer is featured in this months MC News. This is the first picture taken of the new machine due out next year. The image doesn’t give very much away, as the test riders fill up in a Californian Fuel station. The K1600TL features the new forward canted 6 cylinder engine first shown on the BMW concept 6 bike at the Milan show. All the usual top end features typically found on grand tourers
can be found on the BMW plus some. Even though its aimed at the high end market with a price point to match, I still think the BMW has some way to go to capture the Goldwing ethos. It’s not just about power, delivery and smoothness, but also how it makes you feel. I certainly wouldn’t turn down a test ride, but I wont be first in the queue, would you?

After finding out that BMW trail bikes are top heavy and keep on breaking down I think its a walk away time and just say “nice bike”
Honda have perfected the wing for 2 and 3 wheels, surely the Germans are trying to cash in on the Touring market with a machine which has faults.

I don’t think for one moment the bike has any faults worth worrying about. BMW have certainly come a long way in developing machines for certain markets. The big trails bike market was virtually created by BMW. The combination of a 6 cylinder engine, something wingers are all too familiar with, plus all the whistles and bells you can throw at it will certainly prove irresistible to potential GoldWing purchasers. Price will have a lot to do with it though, the current Honda price tag for the GoldWing is £22000, which is a big influence on what bike you spend your money on. I would be interested in finding out the price tag for this new BMW offer.

The germans have a habit of lowering the price just to capture a market. How many wingers would swop from honda to bmw also what the supply is like. Suppose the only way is to wait til it comes out and book a test ride….Then honda would bring out the two litre wing and so it goes on..
