UPDATE

After lots and lots of experiments – and updates to WordPress itself and numerous plugins – the password protection seems to be working again, so I have restored the visibility of the Members page. Bob suggests above that you might want to look in the members section. Just a warning: I have disabled that section while I sort out a security bug with that part of the website. I’ll let you know when the password mechanism seems secure enough for me to release it again…………….webmaestro
