RBLR1000 team asks for support
Please, please, please can some of the club members sponsor us?
The RBLR1000 miles ride takes place on June 19-20 with a team from Goldwings North West taking part. Members Adrian Cresswell, Dave & Toni Bayliss, Barry Halley, Ted Rogerson, James Melia, Steve Fox and I believe Lesley Halley’s sisiter Lynne Shaw have all registered for the 1000 mile in 24 hours ordeal. Team leader Adrian Cresswell, soon to be known as Iron Butt Crezz, is asking for your financial support in sponsoring the team. They are all personally responsible for their own fuel and food costs during the 24 hour rally period, this is plus the time and mileage taken to get to the start point and back home. Please visit the fundraising website and donate what you can to the teams efforts. I also insist that if you are a UK tax payer, which most of us are, you Gift Aid your donation. This means that the tax you have already paid on your money is claimed back from the tax man. A £20.00 donation with Gift Aid receives a tax refund of £5.64 from the tax man and works out at a total of £25.64. How good is that.
Their target is to raise £1000 for the appeal, lets put our team on the map people. This is what your donation will help towards providing.

Just hit the Tax man for £5.64, that feels sweet I can tell you. Pay backs a bitch aint it. Ha!

Is there only me donating to this event. Come on guys, you dont have to go £20.00 to get back at the tax man, do what you can, click on the photo of Iron Butt Cress in the post and go to the team donation site. Dont forget to gift aid. I can count and I know where you live, or at least Stevie Fox does.

10 weeks to go to this ride and much preparation underway. Lists being written, maps being studied, fuel stops noted – I know we are doing this as a team but I can’t help myself! But best of all the practise rides!! Oooh, am loving it! Any excuse to nip down the M6 and pester Steven into taking Heavenly Louise out. Our 322 mile ride out a couple of weeks ago was the day before my birthday and by the time I got off the bike I felt 18 again so I must only be 19 now!! Whatever you lovely Goldwingers are on – I think I’ve got it!! Wayhey!!!

Bob | Apr 10, 2010 | Reply
Royce, nobody said it was £20.00. Please dont anyone think that is the case. I promised £20.00 because I think they are all nuts riding 1000 miles in 24 hours. You can sponsor them for as little or as much as you wish. If you click on the link here it will take you to a website which allows you to pay by card and also to gift aid your donation. This means that the tax already paid on your earnings. ie income tax, can be reclaimed. Its a nice warm feeling geting something out of the tax man I can tell you. You do of course need to be paying tax in the first place, which if you work you instanty qualify. The web site automatically works out your gift aid, all you do is click the “donate now” button and fill in the amount you want to donate. It’s very simple.
Royce Callister | Apr 12, 2010 | Reply
Thanks for that Bob. Donated now

Come on you lot, dig deep into those long pockets and let the moths out. £60 is’nt much for our club to donate to this event. If it has’nt reached £200 by next sunday (18th April) we will donate another £20.
Lynne (the sister) | Apr 16, 2010 | Reply
The RBLR1000 site says that in order to enter we must have a minimum sponsorship of £50. With 8 of us on the Team we need at least £400 between us before we can set off!
Thank you!
Bob | Apr 16, 2010 | Reply
I’m a little surprised at the low uptake on this event. Maybe its the current financial climate, or perhaps it isn’t clear what the sponsorship money is for. Its my understanding that our donations go to the Poppy appeal, that annual event that takes place in November each year when everyone wears a poppy with pride. If thats you, then why not bring your donation forward and sponsor our team. Lynne says they need at least £400 to allow them all to enter, I don’t think for one moment that all they have collected is our paltry sum, however every little helps, so please do what you can. If you are a tax payer ensure you gift aid your donation, that way the tax man has to dip into his pocket as well. Come on guys.
Dave | Apr 16, 2010 | Reply
I’ll easily get the required donation – going ask my sister and her work colleges and family which should do quite nicely……
Crezz | Apr 16, 2010 | Reply
Have faith everyone, I am sure we will make the minimum amount and the target we have set for ourselves.
Yes, the Poppy Appeal runs all year long, not just November, which many people seem to think it operates. The money raised, goes to help serving or ex serving members of our armed forces who are facing difficulties.
Thanks to everyone who has donated so far.
Judy Goodman | Apr 16, 2010 | Reply
Come on, as Bob has said, if you gift aid it you get the tax man to dip into his pocket, that’s got to be good. I’m sure most of you wear a poppy every 11th November, so go on and support a good cause a little more than normal.
Crezz | Apr 17, 2010 | Reply
If people are still unsure what the Poppy appeal does, watch this
.Ed, moved the youtube video to the main page
Bob | Apr 20, 2010 | Reply
Well donations seem to have picked up a little, £160.00 or 16% of what the team are hoping to achieve. Thanks to those who have already used the weblink to donate and special thanks to those who are about to take the plunge and make a donation. You know who you are.
I have moved the video link from Crezz’s comment up to the main posting page. Click on the start button and then decide how much you want to give. Its a no brainer really.

As promised, another donation just given. COME ON YOU LOT, it’s a good cause, and you get one over on the tax man.

Thank you so much, you know who you are!!! Judy and Frank.
Crezz | Apr 22, 2010 | Reply
I think what would be interesting, and so does Bob, is, if the team members keep this section updated as to how much each one has raised so far individually, on the paper sponsor forms.
This way, we have some idea collectively, how well we are doing.
I will start; £120.
Lynne (the sister) | Apr 22, 2010 | Reply
We were waiting a little nearer the time to start asking people and for an article in the NHS Cumbria newsletter to be published this week – but have just today been sponsored for £60 off just two colleagues who asked me for the form! If we are handed the cash now should we add this to the justgiving page??
Bob | Apr 22, 2010 | Reply
Lynne, its my understanding that the benefit of the giving website is that you can pay your donation by credit or debit card from afar. If you have already been given cash from friends or colleagues then I don’t see the point of giving it through the website as they do make a minor charge for their services. Unless your are thinking of gift aiding the donation, in which case you will have to keep the cash and donate the money yourself on your credit card to claim back the tax, thats assuming you are a tax payer in the first place. Or get them to visit the giving site and donate the money themselves and claim Gift Aid personally. It all sounds a bit complex to me though. I would just put it in the pot and add it to the final total to be safe. By the way thats a fine donation from just two supporters

I honestly think this is going to be the toughest trip imaginable. 1000 miles is far enough but doing it in 24 hours will be the killer. Its the final 6 hours that will make all the difference, thats when you will all have to dig deep as a team and support one another, thats when you find out who you can rely on, and thats when you realise you will make it together. Its not a race, pace yourself and look after each other, we will toast your success at Scorton on Saturday night and we will see you all on your return. Boy am I glad I’m not doing this.
Lynne (the sister) | Jun 16, 2010 | Reply
So looking forward to this and I know I will only ever do it once!!! Heading off to Steve’s parent’s at Castleford on Friday and looking forward to meeting up with everyone at the briefing on Friday night. Lets hope that it’s not too bright a sunrise on the Sunday – we don’t want the sun blinding us as we travel south to Leeds on the final stage!! I agree with you, Bob, the adrenalin will keep us going for a long time but we will be weary on the homeward stretch.
Go Team Goldwings Northwest!!!!

Well it is nearly here the big day, when we undertake to complete 1000 miles in under 24 hours for the Poppy Appeal.
I understand that there are 360 motorcycles involved in doing the event tomorrow. Some of those will have pillions on and some will be solo. I guess then there will be about 540 personnel taking part. We haven’t broken the world record, maybe next year we can do it.
I will no doubt be walking like John Wayne on Mon when I come in to work.
Thanks for all your support.

What a fantastic ride it was. We entered as individual bikes and rode as a team taking turns to lead or be back markers. It was brilliant that we set off together and arrived home the same way. The wind at Wick had to be experienced to be believed and will be talked about for a long long time! Thanks to Steve for taking me along and to Crezz, Mike, Dave, Tonia, Jimmy, Ted and Chris for the excellent company, to Crezz and Bob for pushing the team sponsorship and to everyone that put some dosh in for the Poppy Appeal and the Royal British Legion.

The below is taken from an email I received this morning from one of my business contacts, repeated here with her permission -
My husband was ex-forces serving in QLR (Duke of Lancs REGT) for 15 years and did tours of Iraq and Afghan before he came out. My little big brother was injured in Afghan the end of March and he needed an orthopaedic chair, the British Legion provided one for him as the Army just couldn’t manage to get him one! They are fabulous and when we were down at Selly Oaks they came in and took the lads out and brought them things they couldn’t manage to get hold of.
My little big brother has had two operations on his spine now and is learning to walk again. He is very lucky to be alive and the support from all the charities is appreciated by the service personnel and their families. I have seen some very, very young lads with their whole life ahead of them reduced to wheel chairs and sometime a lot worse, but their spirit and steadfast resolve is amazing and it’s because wonderful groups such as yours are supporting them.
A massive thank you from my family to the Goldwingers… what you do makes a life changing difference to those you support.
Mrs Michelle Stevenson
