Any Christmas spirit about……?
Here’s an e-mail received recently..
“Just spoke to Dave Turvey (Goldwings North Wales) and he said your club might be able to help. I have owned a GL 1000 for 33yrs and I now want to put it back on the road. Do you have a member that might be interested in helping me to get it sorted? Last time it was running it was blowing the main fuse and the brakes were not so good. Ralph”
Well, Ralph, if you can provide us with a few more details of your location, and also when the bike was last running, we may be able to help out as we have a wide range of skills, experience and knowledge within the club.
In the meantime, any GL1000 afficianados out there?

Hi Ian & Ralph,
I wouldn’t say I’m a afficianado, but I do know a thing or two about the early GL1000′s and I would like to offer what assistance I can. The main fuse blowing could be lots of things, I had it happen to me due to a chaffered wire in the left hand console, also the connection to the solenoid could cause problem too. rectifer problems are common also. As far as the brakes, they were not the best stoppers. Sticking cylinders, leaking hoses or bleed nipples, old fluid. Goodridge stainless steel hoses make a big difference in making the brakes feel more direct and increase the pressure at the calipers. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I think that Ralph mentioned he was top of Southport area. That was why I suggested that GNWest members might be closer than our members (and there is more technically minded members in your club!).

I assume we responded to Ralph with our contact details. We haven’t heard from him since, which after the offers of help, is a bit strange.
Ralph if you are reading this then pick up the baton, there is a wealth of knowledge within the club and I’m sure several members are more than happy to get your GL1000 back on the road.
