Honister Pass / Slate Mine – Frank Goodman

Honister Pass 150x150 Honister Pass / Slate Mine Frank GoodmanA last minute run last sunday, we met at Forton, just Frank, Judy, Roger and Cheryl, we set off for the lakes. It was cloudy but warm. Owing to the missed Lancaster Bomber a few weeks ago a Spitfire made up for it at Bowness, it was a full size replica and very nice too. We had a brew then set off again going north through some breathtaking scenery but really bad road surfaces. A guy who I work with had told me about a place called Honister pass, he said it would be nice on the bike, and it was, again the scenery was breathtaking and very good ‘biking’ roads. It brings Honister Slate Mine 150x150 Honister Pass / Slate Mine Frank Goodmanyou to Honister slate mine where you can go up the mountain on a bus and go into the mine, we thought it would be a good ride out one day for the future, there is a shop and cafe there too, the shop sells everything you can think of in lakeland slate, Roger can vouch for that, eh Roger? He was that impressed he had a second ride there just to exchange his purchase for the right number. We picked up some leaflets for members to look at for a future run. From there we rode through Borrowdale, Buttermere and over to Cockermouth and into Keswick where we sampled the ice creams and we have to add that they were just as good as last time. All in all it was a very pleasant day out AND we missed all the rain.

  1. This looks like a good run, when can we do it?

  2. As Frank has done more of his fair share of Ride Outs this summer, Cheryl and I will volunteer to lead the Run Out possibly on September The 12th as this is a free date in the calendar. We will be entiteld to a 10% discount on the mine tour as a group booking, of about £8.50 each payable on the day.( To be confimed )
We could discuss this at the next meeting.

    Roger

  3. Watch this space, our very own master of ride outs has found something else to do while we’re up there, not for the faint hearted though. He usually has a surprise in hand and this will be it. Wait with baited breath.

  4. If Franks surprise is what I think it is I might just chicken out.

    Roger

  5. If Franks surprise is what I think it is then bring it on.
