Help for Heroes

thumbs help for heroes Help for Heroes

Hi all.
What can I say? 19 bikes turned up for this worthy charity. And four members from, Goldwings North Wales, brilliant. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw you all then they just kept arriving, one or two got lost but made it in the end. What a splendid sight all 19 Goldwings, Frank leading us down the wrong road,(I have to say, I did tell him to turn right) the locals must have wondered what was going on with us riding round their estate. When we finally arrived, there, in the corner was a stock! We all decided that Frank must be reprimanded and get in the stock. After a bit of huffing and puffing off he went with us all following, in he went. Wet sponges at the ready I had go first, (I did feel a little guilty but carried on anyway) 4 for £1, what good value, some followed on, poor Frank, maybe he won’t take another wrong turn. Then Barry went in, yes Lesley had 4 for £1 too, as did others. Then last of all Bob went in, Jackie was first of course, then Dave, then uncle tom cobbley and all, Jackie then decided that she would go further so with Barry’s help they tipped the bucket over him, then put the bucket on his head, poor Bob was dripping wet with a sponge up his back too. The locals now know how silly the members of Golwings North West and Goldwings North Wales can be. Some rode round the ring later showing their pride and joy with Bob doing the commentary, some stayed and took more photo’s.
On behalf of Jenny I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for such an excellent turnout, when I hear how much was raised I will let you know on this website. Let’s hope it was loads a money.
Another good day with good silly friends-excellent.

  1. I think this should be a big yes. I recently attended a masonic charity giving day and there we presented a cheque to this very organisation. They were represented by a young man who was recently injured in Afghanistan and he couldn’t praise enough the work and facilities that this charity provided. I will be there, don’t think I will be alone somehow.

  2. This sounds like a great idea. I accidentally stumbled on this announcement and As a street performer I’d love to donate some of my time and skills to this fun day. Could someone tell me how if possible I could get involved?

Judy, maybe you would like to make a comment on this, [Bob]

  3. Hi Dave.
It would be fantastic if you could be there and donate your time and expertise on the day.
My friend is on holiday at the moment so can’t be contacted but she will be so pleased by your offer.
I will email her to contact me on her return and hopefully get in touch with you.
    Thank you so much.
    Judy.

  4. count me in as well

  5. We will be there, is there a time for the start yet Judy? Barney says if a bucket can be found he is happy to help collect for such a fabulous cause, our armed forces should be celebrated and supported more often

    Barry and Lesley

  6. Sounds great to me Judy. As you know, I have 2 sons both in the military, so it means a lot to me when they are over seas.
    See you there.

  7. They have a meeting on sunday about the finer details, Frank and I are going there after ours, we will probably meet around 10 ish but I will have to post here to let everyone know after sunday. That ok? Barney will be taken care of, my friend who’s helping with it is mad about dogs.
    See you sunday.

  8. We just got back from their meeting and everything is on track and going well. They have a full programme planned with lots going on including the army band, it’s going to be a good day all round. We have a good spot on tarmac looking onto the field where everyone will see us and there will be catering on site.
Please come and help support this event for our soilders in Afganistan, it’s a very worthwhile charity.
We will meet at 10 a.m. Come off the M6 at jct 29, turn left for Chorley, take the 1st left into Walton Summit Road then 1st left again into Reedfield Road. (The hotel we were going to use is closed) This is the entrance to British Car Auctions who are closed on sundays, we will be waiting on the right near the BCA entrance.
Let’s have a good day IN THE SUN and raise loads a money. See you there.
    Judy

  9. To all at Goldwings NW,
Thank you so much for agreeing to be part of our day at Clayton Brook on 9th August. If successful, this looks to become an annual event and we have worked hard to get things right. Judy & Frank will keep you informed, and we look forward to seeing you there.

  10. I’ve just noticed the map that Bob has put up for this event, on there he has taken the wrong road so please disregard the map and follow Judys instructions as posted above. Sorry Bob.
    Frank

  11. No problem. I have changed the map.

  12. Frank, can you give us the full address where the event is being held, as I will not make the meet time?

  13. For anyone else who may want to go straight there, the event is on at Clayton Brook Village Green, Clayton Brook lies between Bamber Bridge and Chorley, follow the A6 from Preston and turn left into Clayton Brook Road then 2nd right into Great Greens Lane and the village green is on the left. There is going to be lots going on so you can’t miss it.
    See you there.
    Judy

  18. Its now monday morning and your writer is full of caffene and breakfast – and is feeling better enough to write another chapter in my new book about a goldwing day out. We arrived at the meeting point to a mass of wings (what time had you been there since?? the coffee tables gave it away!! haha) Wr arrived at the venue after a loverly wonder through a local housing estate following Frank and his imfamous sat nav. By the by we are seeing a house there this week with a view to purchase!! Setting up such a number of wings and trikes and combo’s took a bit of thought but was duly carried out and members began the sunday morning ritual – food food coffee and a smoke (if you smoked) Me personanally watch an ice cream van park and re park for about 20 minutes – what was he after achieveing that the smoke from the bbq by him wafted from behind or the side…….I digress after a slow start the sun cam out and shade was sort cos it was getting hot not for your writer he missed last summer by having a bath!!! After a lovely repast (food for the posh readers) the events in the square began – kung fu, games, line dancing, shoot outs, tug of wars – which the gallant lads lost 2-1 well done boys training will commence for next years try soon. Finally we had a ride round the ring – your writer did his very best STIG impression with his chrome rainbow visor down (hot hot hot) Bob did a great compare job despite poor radio mike! That brought to an end a great day out for a special cause which we hope raised allot of cash.

  19. News just in – a video was taken of 3 members line dancing and we have been in touch with the News of the World and they said they will pay a sizeable fee for this film!! To keep it out the papers will the dancers – they know who they are leave £3.50 in used coins in locker 1800 at Liverpool Lime street station by friday or the paper gets the film!!!!!

  20. Barry if lesley likes drumming get Led Zeppelins song “moby Dick” its a 12 minute drum solo – enjoy!! album u want is “song remains the same”

  21. Tisk!! It isnt the drums Lesley likes its the uniforms ;-)

  22. Hey Lesley would a highland pipe band do then???

  23. Help for HeroesThanks for inviting us to join you on the Help for Heroes display, Bob – Joanna and I had a great time (partly because the weather gods were very kind). I’ve just uploaded 140 photos of the day to the GoldWings North Wales website.

I’ll tell you something too – I’ve taken lots of photos of Dave Turvey over the years, but I’ve never seen any before with as much sheer, unadulterated glee on his face as those I took of him throwing wet sponges at you! Take a look – I think we roused his sadistic streak!

Nigel (aka “Big Wing“) (aka “man-with-pole“) (aka “Webmaestro“) (aka “hey you……“)

  24. Looking at everyone who threw a wet sponge I think we have all got a sadistic streak. Look at Reenes face, then she slapped the wet sponge across Bobs face. Sadistic or what? Poor Jeff.

  25. WOW! What a fantastic site as the Goldwings rolled in across the field – I was reduced to tears of joy!
Thank you all so much for making the day complete. I can say (and this is a totally biased opinion) that your display of bikes stole the show, and although you didn’t take many photos everyone enjoyed looking at them. My husband now wants a Wing – something I’ve been nudging him to do for years!
Anyway – to the total. We raised over £2000, there is still a bit more to come in & we have a couple of other smaller events lined up for this year & everyone wants to do the Fun Day again next – council permitting!
Many, many thanks again, God bless you all!
    Keep safe, Jenny W

  26. Brilliant photos Nigel but then yours always are, fantastic ones from the pole!
    See Nigels photo’s here (Ed.)

  27. Yes, I noticed that the majority of pictures taken of me on the receiving end of wet sponges had all recently left the hands of Dave Turvey. So much for masonic brotherhood. I will have my day.
