RAF Cosford – Report by Cheryl Daniel

thumbs raf cosford 14 RAF Cosford Report by Cheryl DanielSunday 15 August – Ride out to RAF Cosford – Turned up bright and early at the Pops to meet all the people who said they were really interested in the run out – what a miserable turn out, at 9:45 there were only three bikes ready to go on the run!! Frank, Graham and us, Roger and Cheryl – the three red arrows!! We set off on the run through Sandbach, Crewe, Nantwitch, Auldlam and stopped off at Frank’s granddads old farm house at Adderley (fond memories for some, we just thought he’d taken a wrong turn, again!) Off again via Market Drayton and then on to Cosford. As raf cosford 6 RAF Cosford Report by Cheryl Danielthere were only the three of us we managed to squeeze all the bikes on to one parking space, saving us a grand total of £6.00. Free entry into the museum was a bonus and there was 4 hangars which were full of planes from WWII – including the Lancaster bomber Bob which Frank is pointing out to you – to present day, along with various engines, a few helicopters and a couple of tanks. Informative videos and signs were along the way and after Graham had his forty winks on a bench in front of a video, we decided to head outside to have our lunches in the warm sunshine on the grass.

After visiting all 4 hangars we decided to head back home and called at J&S in Northwich to check out the helmets, just as they were closing! Got back on the bikes and Frank did a few slow circuits around the car park before we visited the Anderton boat lift for an ice-cream in the lovely sunshine before heading home.
