Anyone who hasn’t been before can view the google map for directions. Watch out for the entrance system, depending on your direction of approach you may have to pass the main gate and proceed past the airfield to the roundabout and then back again to gain entry. Security is pretty good so have your pass available for viewing on arrival. Goldwings North West usually have a camping area about as far away as you could possibly be from the main gate. I would strongly recommend viewing the Google map for directions as the airfield road system and the number of exhibitors moving around the main site will make it quite difficult to make u turns, open the map and click onto satellite view, this identifies the runways, which are not visible in map view. If all else fails call 07801 137 698 for assistance when your on site. Its going to be a great weekend.

Apparently, these have been tested and approved by no less than our resident gourmet, Mr Frank Goodman, and pronounced excellent.

I’m also advised by Stuart that you’d struggle to eat three, so if you’re pitching up on Friday and can’t be bothered cooking dinner, they’ll be available at a nominal cost of £3 each or the bargain two for £5.

Served, no doubt, in a convivial atmosphere with more than a hint of alcohol, these are sure to be popular, so don’t be late and miss out!

" width="315" height="169" />The first half dozen or so campers for the bar b cue have arrived on site here at Kirkby Lonsdale. The weather is warm and dry with a scattering of cloud but on the whole very pleasant, the new event shelters are up, and everyone agrees that they are a bargain at £150 a piece. The balloon pageant field is filling steadily with caravans, motor homes and balloon trailers. The folks are a friendly group and we have already exchanged ideas on the Night Glow event scheduled for Sunday night. If your due today dont forget a raffle prize and bring your suntan cream. Just a warning as well, when you come up the M6 exit at junction 36 and not the earlier junction as there are road closures on that route.

Pitch fees for the weekend have been confirmed at £6.00 per night plus £3.00 per night for electric hook up. This is limited so come prepared not to have electric hook up. We can be on site from Thursday PM until Tuesday AM.

We have booked the Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club for our yearly Bar b Cue. This years event will be a Goldwings North West funded affair but it will be open to non members and visitors alike. The cost of the bar b cue will be covered by club funds and will be free to current members. Visitors and guests will be made very welcome but expected to pay a charge of £5.00 per head for the Bar b Cue. Judy Goodman is collecting names of those attending and also requesting volunteers from budding Master Chefs to provide cooking and galley services for the day. Any testosterone fuelled hunter gatherers can make their way to the front of the queue please. This year we are sharing the Rugby field with a local Hot Air Balloon pageant, so there may even be opportunities to swap rides and have a balloon flight. In any case there is plenty of room on the field. Camping is £6.00 per unit per night regardless of what you prefer to sleep in and you can arrive on site from Friday afternoon on wards until the Monday. There is a limited supply of unofficial electric hook ups which we will do our best to secure and make available. Hotels and B & B facilities are available in the town and nearby villages. This is a beautiful site with stunning views across the valley with the local town of Kirkby Lonsdale less than a 5 min walk by the river.

On the Sunday we also have a run out to take part in the Burgan Relaywhich Pam & Phil Bowker are involved with. Looks set to be a great weekend away. This run out has now been rescheduled buttheres nothing stopping us planning something else.

The Llandudno Transport Festival is held on the sea-front showground in one of the most picturesque bays of the UK. Llandudno is Wales’ largest resort and famed for its Victorian style and Edwardian elegance. The Festival is the largest in Wales and one of the U.K.’s best-loved events. It is held in conjuction with the Victorian Extravaganza. Costume, vintage fairground and a host of attractions combine in a unique annual celebration of transport and entertainment heritage within the town. The two events are linked by a free shuttle-bus service.

Regular attendees of this festival will already have received their exhibitors application form along with a camping plot allocation request. If you haven’t been to this festival before you need to visit the event website and download an application form. The event managers, in their wisdom, only send out application forms to those exhibitors who attended the previous year. The way they do this is to ask you to log into your respective display area every day with your bike, this way they can see who attends on a regular basis. Alternatively you can have a run into North Wales and spend the day on site in and around the town. There are plenty of B&B’s and Hotels available if you want to stay over. Its a great weekend with plenty to see and do. Plus don’t forget the Royal Wedding is the day before. Check out the event website first to see if there are any plots for camping still free.

However, two hours before the start of the bar b cue on Saturday the weather was absolutely atrocious. The rain was being driven sidewards and the marquee was being battered and held down by soggy volunteers. For some reason most of the members had decided to take a walk into Kirkby Lonsdale for a quick look round. We were very lucky not to lose the marquee. From all views it looked like the bar b cue would be a disaster, and with the club house booked on the Saturday night with a 21st birthday bash we had nowhere to run to.

Thursday’s advance party turned up in glorious sunshine and had the pick of spots to set up their caravan’s and motor homes. Little work actually took place on the Thursday due to us all taking the opportunity to have a sit in the sunshine and polish of some Pim’s and Famous Grouse shandy. Friday morning came with the same weather plus the marquee, trestle tables and bar b cue equipment. Its amazing what you can pack into a trailer. The fun began when we decided to erect the marquee without any instructions. Stuart confirmed he had seen the structure before and had a clue as to what it should look like but had no idea how it went together. Surprisingly the whole thing came together quite quickly and in no time the marquee was erected and pegged down for the Saturday’s event. The photo gallery gives an impression of the chaos created during the build. Many more Goldwing North West members and their guests started to arrive during the afternoon along with our friends from Goldwings North Wales and the guys from Southport Cruisers. Barry turned up with yet another type of abode, this dwelling however needed the assistance of almost everyone on site to get it erected. By the time it was all up you could haver parked half a dozen wings in the tent area and host the bar b cue at the same time, talk about luxury. I wonder what he will turn up with next time. The evening ended with us all retiring to the club house for a few beers and an opportunity to meet new people. No idea what time it all ended but everyone seemed to having a good time talking to old and new friends. Saturday dawned to wet weather, this however didn’t deter several members from going on a ride out around the locality. As the day progressed the weather just got worse and the rain and wind looked like putting an end to the bar b cue. Thankfully the immediate past weather master weaved his magic and by 3:15 the sky was clear and amazingly the sun shone. Allegedly 20 miles south in Preston the weather had been good all day long. As the sun shone more and more visitors started to arrive. Stuart fired up the bar b cue and the ladies prepared salads and buns. John and Toni brought along two legs of lamb which had been marinating for three days previously. Both legs were dumped on the barbie along with a feast of other delights. By the time the first meat was being served almost 60 members and visitors had gathered in and around the marquee, the sun shone and a splendid evening began. A couple of Harleys and several Goldwings took centre stage in the sunshine and lots of beer and food were consumed. Who would have thought that 2 hours previously it was almost all off.

Its a pity they don’t run this event every month. The combination of classic bikes, cars, specialist clubs, model aircraft flying displays and the traders makes this weekend a great event for everyone. The airfield is almost full with things to see and do.
This year our display area was right next to the bar and public toilets. I think we did the right thing camping in our usual spot

over by the far end of the runway. The bar was noisy at night and the public toilets left little to the imagination by Sunday afternoon. The motorcycle display area was very well attended with several stands representing clubs that had split from their main organisation and formed into smaller more focused groups. Sounded quite familiar, personally I felt the event had a larger number of bikes and a wider choice of interesting machines on display. As usual we all had a splendid time during the evening with lots of fire water being drunk. In fact Jackie passed round some form of refreshment which when spilled on Frank Goodmans jeans promptly bleached the colour out of them. Christ knows what it did to the liver.
It was good to see Barry, Jimmy Melia and Ted braving the conditions and staying over with us on the Saturday night in small tents. Barry had a few probs with his leaking mattress but in the end all three survived the ordeal. Thanks for making the effort chaps.
It was great to welcome a new member at the event, Alan signed up on the Saturday and spent the weekend with us. His bike is a mint 1988 GL1500 he bought for no money at all. Why don’t I find these bargains? Welcome to the club Alan, join in as much as you wish, the more you get involved the more you will benefit.
Happy to see Graham Brookfield from Lancs & Lakes parking up with us and taking the time to have a chat, I know he had a good day on the trade stalls, thanks for paying us the visit Graham. See you at the Light Parade muster point in Pontins.
I hope everyone had a good time, you can guarantee we will have it on the agenda for next year.
