Although the Christmas festivities are now over and the New Year ones approaching, don’t forget our 3rd Annual Dinner Dance coming soon……

Saturday the 28th January 2012 is the date, the event to be held at the Feathers Hotel, Leyland, offering an all-inclusive package of wining, dining and dancing for the bargain price of only £39.95 per person (held at 2011 price).

Once more, it looks like being a superb evening. The Feathers Hotel is a rather posh affair and the food and service is excellent. What with the all inclusive bar I will be on the lookout for volunteers for the mornings AGM meeting.

Accomodation is also available at a rate of £60 per room (no increase on last year), this including breakfast and use of the hotel’s many leisure facilities.

For those who haven’t been before, the package includes:

Free – unlimited bucks fizz and canapés on arrival
Top quality international Carvery dinner.
Unlimited quality Red, White & Rose wine on the table. Drink as much as you like.
Free bar through to Midnight.
Free Fish & Chip Supper served at 11:00 pm

To simplify the whole process, members will need to book their meal and room directly with the hotel, 01772 422922, quoting reference GW280112.

To qualify for this deal we have to have a minimum of 80 bookings. If we all bring a guest couple with us we will meet the minimum number quite easily, and I’m sure our friends from Goldwings North Wales , Elite Wings, plus all our individual Federation members would be interested in coming along, plus we can invite any friends and family who may be interested. Shouldn’t be too difficult to sell this to all our friends.

Decembers Meeting

Most of us woke to a crisp and sunny day but over towards the hills around Burnley Bolton way there was at least 3 inches of snow, and some of us had to dig out the car for the journey over to the Norman Jepson. It was good to see a reasonable turnout of members for the final meeting of 2011, and also the end of year raffle, which was probably the reason most people turned up. Jeff Thornton offered some great news regarding next years Light Parade which should be announced on the Goldwing Light Parade website very soon. Well done to his team for pulling together all the ingredients required for such an event. Everyone was reminded of our 3rd annual dinner dance and AGM weekend which takes place on Saturday 28th January at the Feathers Hotel in Leyland, by all accounts there is a good turnout promised from several Federation clubs and associations. Ian also took the opportunity to invite members to stand for committee positions at the AGM. To be honest, without new ideas and fresh eyes our club can become stale and unatractive to new members. Its all well and good following the regular volunteers who continually turn out what they think are the popular events that everyone wants to attend, without new blood it all becomes repetative and boring. It doesnt mean that the entire committee needs to change, in fact that would be the wrong thing to do entirely. Changing one position every year is probably about right and changing responsibilty within the team is also positive for the club. So come on, its down to you guys to have a go and get involved. Trust me, its a lot of fun.

The previously mentioned raffle was a big sucess with over 20+ prizes up for grabs. Strangely though most of those happened to be booze, and I would love to know where the alcohol free wine came from, whats the point of that? Most members stayed after the meeting and had a splendid Christmas Dinner together which by all accounts went down well, apart from Judy Goodman’s who’s dinner didnt arrive for quite some time and when it did she didnt have to pay for it due to the extended wait.

Over the Christmas period Ian plans on visiting the Samlesbury Memorial Hall as a possible future meeting venue for us. Have a look at their website, it’s nothing like the village hall in Dads Army, if thats what you were thinking.

Lesley Halley Award.

The Lesley Halley award is named in honour of Lesley who sadly passed away very suddenly just prior to the 2009 dinner dance and AGM. The award is in memory of the passion, drive and enthusiasm she had for pushing the club forward and arranging events. In fact it was Lesley who found the special deal we now have with the Leyland Hotel, and no doubt we will continue to have in the coming years. The award is presented to any member of the club who, in the minds of the organising team, have been spotted with their heads above the parapet and involving themselves without hesitation in the betterment and promotion of the club and its members. The award for 2010 was presented to Frank Goodman for his well supported ride outs during the year, plus his never ending enthusiasm for Goldwings North West. A worthy recipient indeed.

The dinner dance at the Leyland Hotel turned out to be a terrific event. Federation members from all three clubs supported us and had a really good time. Special VIP Guests, Eric & Bridget Warburton, proprietors of Knutsford Honda, spent the evening with us and even won a raffle prize. Thanks to the organising team who put the whole affair together. 26 Jan..Hotel confirms guest list now at 102!

24th Jan..Checking with the Feathers Hotel this morning, we now have a total of 98 members and guests booked for the Dinner Dance. Fantastic news, considering there is nothing but doom and gloom in the news and press and that Christmas and New Year has only just taken place. If last years event was anything to go by then we are going to have a brilliant night.

Details are now confirmed for our all inclusive dinner dance on the 29th January 2011. As last year, the venue is the Premier Leyland Hotel at Leyland, just off Junction 28 of the M6. Click for map and directions, Voted Lancashire’s Best Large Hotel, the evening will include drinks on arrival, free red, white, or rose wine with our meal, a free bar up to midnight, grand buffet, mini fish and chips super, disco and reduced accomodation plus

a free meeting room for our AGM the following morning. The all inclusive price is £39.95 per person, and an Executive room (double or single occupancy) costs £70.00 per night. (I did try to negotiate for a non-executive room, but they don’t exist! (however they have reduced the cost by £5 because we were there last year). The hotel have also confirmed that rooms may be either double or twin-bedded, allowing those members who wish to share a room to do so, but they would need to know which (double or twin) at the time of booking.

Bookings (inc deposits) can now be made directly with the hotel by calling them on 01772 422922 and quoting reference GO 290111. Early booking is advisable (and also confirms our reservation).

We certainly supped some stuff at the free bar and had a lot of fun. Thanks to Frank Goodman and Dave Turvey who added their images to the gallery. Well it was a great night and many of you did indeed bring your cameras. There are now 300 pictures from the dinner dance and around a dozen from the AGM uploaded to the 2010 gallery pages. If you have any pictures you want adding to the gallery please e mail them across but remember to crop them and reduce them in size first.

For all those digital camera owners in the club. Please bring it with you to the anniversary dinner dance on Saturday. I want to have a good selection of photographs for the website for everyone to enjoy. There will be plenty of spectacle to take pictures of so snap away to your hearts content. I will download all your pictures from the Saturday onto my laptop Sunday morning. Thanks in anticipation.

Charity to benefit!

We’ve had a couple of good ideas for a collection at the dinner dance in aid of Goldwings North West nominated charity. Firstly John & Maureen have donated a giant teddy bear, which would make a great pillion for someone, as a raffle prize. If members would also like to donate any unsuitable Christmas gifts or bottles on the night we could have a very successful raffle. Lesley Halley also has a great idea that would benefit our charity, she comments that as members we rarely donate our own money at static charity displays but rely on the generosity of the general public, well nows your chance to donate a few coins. On your table at the dinner you will find a charity bucket, into which you throw your loose change or any coin you wish every time you get a free drink from the bar or your wine runner replaces a bottle on your table. You can participate in either or both collections, either way our nominated charity for 2010 will benefit. Have fun!

Dave Turvey, Chairman of Goldwings North Wales confirms that 10 of their members have booked for the anniversary dinner dance and overnight accommodation. Thats absolutely brilliant news, well done North Wales. We look forward to welcoming you all to the celebration, especially Derek who promised to wear his kilt and Alan and Rodney who may be in officers No1 Dress, should be quite a spectacle. Starters

A warming winter broth of cellar vegetables with barley and golden parsnips and served with cheesy herb croutons

Roasted beetroot olive and feta cheese tossed in a mint and orange salad with an aged balsamic dressing

Field mushrooms flavoured with a Cropwell Bishop Stilton sauce on sweet onion bread

Fine brandy chicken liver pâté studded with candied cranberries and accompanied by a port and caramelised red onion marmalade

Main Course

Sage brushed fresh Cheshire turkey infused with fresh garden herbs, maple syrup chipolatas enhanced with a chestnut and cranberry stuffing.

Hot baked home roasted ham flavoured with freshly ground cinnamon and accompanied by a whole grain brandy and mustard sauce

Slowly cooked casserole of juniper lamb finished with roasted shallots, thyme and sage dumplings

Roasted salmon fillet set on garlic spinach with a shell fish and prawn sauce

Roasted butternut squash feta spinach and pine nut cake set on roasted vegetables infused with basil olive oil

With all of the above main courses, we offer freshly cooked Christmas style market vegetables

Desserts

A sumptuous sticky toffee pudding studded with plump dates and served with rich butterscotch sauce

A superb Mrs Beeton style Christmas pudding with a brandy cream sauce

Christmas Party – Ideas!

As the whole country is suffering the blistering heat wave our minds start to wander to times of cooler weather. The best time for cooler weather is Christmas : not that far away really, its only 13 weeks away! So we must put some thoughts together at what the members would like to do for a Christmas Dinner Dance. Due to being a club in infancy our membership number is around 60 people although it is climbing nicely every week, and with guest in our families and friends I am sure we could manage to fill a room and have a private party and boogie, or ……

This year the Swallow are in the run up to Christmas putting on themed party nights, we could all limbo on the Caribbean night, be sleek and mysterious on the James Bond night, be transported to the tartan trousers of the Bay City Rollers for the 70′s night, be electrified by the 80′s or just rock around the clock on the rock and roll night!

We need your feedback on what you would like to do and some sort of ideas on numbers. These nights will soon be being booked by office parties etc and I would hate us to lose out on a night that the majority of members would like to do. Have a think about it, and reply on the site or let us know at the next meeting.
